Essen
The first New Year’s baby was born in Essen at 1.07 a.m. The boy was delivered in Elisabeth Hospital – four weeks before the appointment.

Regardless of whether it is a pandemic or not: the delivery room is busy every day. It was no different on New Year’s night. Several women were in labor in the three hospitals in Essen with their own maternity wards. One boy was in a particularly hurry: Emilio.

He was the first to see the light of day in 2021 at 1.07 a.m. in Elisabeth Hospital. He came four weeks early. But not entirely unexpected, as mother Melina Zahl reports. The day before Christmas Eve, her water broke and she went to the hospital in Huttrop. “Everything went pretty quickly on New Year’s Eve,” says the 19-year-old.

Despite the early start, the little boy is doing fine

Emilio weighs 2710 grams, is 49 centimeters tall and, despite his early start in life, in the best of health. “All values are top,” says his mom happily, who has recovered very well after the exertion. She regrets that her family cannot visit the happy event because of the corona protective measures. But you are over the phone and messenger services in contact.

Despite the early hospitalization, she did not necessarily expect a New Year’s child, says the young woman with a laugh. “That’s something special.” She will spend the first few weeks after her release with her mother until everything has been prepared for the child at home in Borbeck. Italian names are very popular in her family, so Emilio was chosen , says the single parent.

In the university hospital it was much quieter at New Year

By early Friday evening, a total of four children had been delivered in the Elisabeth Hospital. The Krupp Hospital in Rüttenscheid reported two children in the morning: a girl was born at 4.53 a.m. and a boy at 7.22 a.m.

In the university hospital, however, the first child was born at 11.43 a.m. The girl Riola was born by caesarean section. “On New Year’s Eve there were many deliveries, on New Year’s Eve it was a little quieter at first, as was the case with the gunfire,” said Senior Physician Dr. Oliver Hoffmann from the team at the University Women’s Clinic.

The editorial team would like to take this opportunity to warmly congratulate all new parents.
