In a letter to the city council, mayor Johan Remkes announced that this year it really should be different during the New Year in The Hague. He wants to put people out of their homes ‘in very dangerous situations’. That is now happening, for example, in people where a hemp farm is discovered.
According to the mayor, it is an extreme measure, but he wants to investigate it further together with housing associations.

Young children were involved several times. “For example, an incident took place at the beginning of December in which young children with a home-made molotov cocktail were in their pockets. Presumably those children and / or their parents were at that table with fire accelerators and fireworks at the kitchen table to make the firework bomb.”

Riots in Duindorp
In the Duindorp district of The Hague, everything was in good shape last New Year. The police and fire brigade took into account riots. Many residents were also afraid of a restless night.
In the end, real riots did not occur during the New Year, but it was busy with many incidents. There were 44 arrests, last year there were 78.
