New Xbox Series X stock arrived at Media Markt

Ever since the launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, it’s been nearly impossible to get hold of a copy. You either have to be lucky with a draw or you have to sell your soul to one of the scalpers on Marketplace. But lately we’ve been seeing more and more next-gen consoles physically appear in the store, where the rule is ‘first come, first served’.

At the shops in Zwolle, Amersfoort and Eindhoven Ekkersrijt you can make your move, provided you are on time, of course. The Xbox Series X consoles are flying over the counter ten months after launch as if like hot cakes.

Major inventory issues for Xbox Series X

It’s not surprising that a new console isn’t in stock right after launch, but the scarcity of the PS5 and Xbox Series X so long after launch is remarkable. The reason for that is the global semiconductor chip-crisis caused by the corona pandemic.

Because production has been suspended for a few months, large waiting lists have arisen.

Combine that with a huge demand for new electronics – not just the next-gen consoles, but also new graphics cards and smartphones – and it’s clear why we’ve been waiting so long for an Xbox Series X under the TV.
