Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Samsung has prepared a 200MP mobile camera. The South Korean company has just announced the Isocell HP1 sensor which features new pixel-binning technology while also claiming improvements in low-light photo capture.
The Isocell HP1 is the industry’s first 200MP resolution sensor. When in bright light, the Isocell HP2 chooses to use all 200MP into individual 0.64 micron pixels.
While in low light, Samsung uses the latest ChameleonCell pixel-binning technology. This allows the sensor to group four or 16 pixels into one large pixel.
Both configurations can effectively convert the isocell to 50MP with 1.28 micron pixels or 12.6 MP with 2.56 micron.
Samsung says the last configuration can improve light absorbing and sensitivity to take pictures in dim light better, quoted by Android Authority, Thursday (2/9/2021).
Meanwhile, for taking video, the 200MP sensor can record 8K/30fps video using four-in-one pixel binning.
In addition, Samsung also launched a new sensor in the GN series. But instead of focusing on more megapixels, it will instead deliver auto-focus performance with lots of photodiodes.
Samsung claims to be able to produce automatic auto-focus speed instantly. In particular the GN5 packs 1.0 micron pixels smaller than the 1.4 micro pixels of the Isocell GN2 which was launched earlier this year.
Unfortunately until now there is no information when the phone with a 200MP camera will be launched. It is not yet clear whether Samsung will release a 200MP camera on its series of phones.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra is rumored to not have an upgrade on the camera side. While the S22 and S22 Plus may be able to slide with a 50MP sensor.
In addition, the Android Authority reported that there was news of a Xiaomi flagship phone that uses the sensor and will be launched in 2022, but until now there has been no other confirmation.
