New World is Amazon Games’ first success with 700,000 active players – update – Gaming – News

Amazon’s mmo game New World was officially released on Tuesday and the game is off to a good start, according to statistics from Steam. At the time of writing, there are almost 570,000 concurrent players active. It is the first Amazon game to prove a success.

From Steam stats page currently shows 567,918 active New World players and that number is growing. Because the day is not over yet and European and American players may not get started until later, the number could rise significantly. With over half a million concurrently active players, New World is one of the most popular games on Steam. Only CS:GO does significantly better and DOTA 2 is on Tuesday around the same numbers as the new game from Amazon.

SteamDB notes that New World is in fifth place at the current peak of all-time records when it comes to simultaneously active players. Also, the Amazon game has already overtaken Valheim in terms of peak player numbers. That game was very popular at the beginning of this year on Steam.

New World is for sale on Amazon and on Steam for 40 euros. The game is only available for PC. It’s about a massive multiplayer onlinegame set in the fantasy world of Aeternum, where players fight against The Corrupted. Due to its popularity, there are currently long queues to get into the servers. Report that, among other things users on the Tweakers forum.

Update, 7:13 PM: The counter now stands at about 700,000 simultaneous players. This makes New World the most played game on Steam on Tuesday evening.

First success for Amazon Games

Amazon started making its own games in 2012 and reportedly puts half a billion dollars into it every year, but great successes have not yet been achieved. Several games that were in development have flopped. Amazon spent years working on an Overwatch-like multiplayer shooter Crucible. It was released in May 2020, but was withdrawn shortly after to make improvements. In October that same year, the game was scrapped. The team that worked on that game was then transferred to New World.
