A new work by Banksy is currently on display at Southampton Hospital, in the United Kingdom, reveals the BBC. Large of one square meter, the black and white work pays homage to caregivers, on the front line in the fight against coronavirus.
It represents a child on his knees playing. In a basket next to him, he has abandoned his traditional Spiderman and Batman dolls, preferring them the doll of a superheroine, a nurse from the NHS, the British health system, who wears mask, blouse and cape.
“Thank you for everything you do. I hope this drawing will light up this place a bit, even if it is in black and white”, wrote the anonymous artist on a note to their attention.
The work auctioned in the fall
The work will remain on display at Southampton Hospital until the fall. It will then be auctioned and the funds raised will be donated to the NHS.
“Our hospital has been directly affected by the coronavirus epidemic. We have lost loved ones, colleagues and friends,” said Paula Head, hospital representative. “It was a great honor for Banksy to choose us to represent the incredible effort that everyone made at the NHS at this time.”
