A new ground station in Offenbach’s weather park shows how weather data is obtained.
Weather data is collected by the German Weather Service (DWD), among other things, with the help of measuring and observation stations.
Such a ground station has recently been located in the weather park on Offenbacher Buchhügel. As the city announced, the white dome of the eight-meter-high weather radar was in use in Dreieich-Offenthal. Now it is intended to bring forecast technology closer to visitors to the weather park. The white dome, which sits on a steel structure, usually hides radar technology, which is used to measure precipitation. The result of the measurements in real time is, among other things, the precipitation radar, known from weather reports and weather apps for smartphones.
The new exhibit is located on a specially created section of the route, which now completes the existing routes with a total of 14 stations and the regional park portal as a circular route. According to the city, 49,000 euros of the total costs of 98,000 euros come from funding from Regionalpark Ballungsraum Rhein Main GmbH with the support of the State of Hesse and the airport operator Fraport. The exhibit itself was made available by the German Weather Service. The project was planned and implemented by the city’s office for urban planning, traffic and construction management. Building department head Paul-Gerhard Weiß (FDP) got himself an impression on site with Andrea Koenecke (Regional Park Rhein Main) and the first district councilor Claudia Jäger (CDU) (see picture). jon
