Although a number of wave pools have been created in the mainland United States so far, most of them are located in inland areas in states with ocean access.

It’s similar to Kelly’s Surf Ranch and PSSC (Palm Springs Surf Club), and although both are far from the ocean, they are classified as California areas.

From that point of view as well, the wave pool “REVEL SURF” in Arizona is scheduled to have a soft launch in December of this year and a grand opening in January of next year.

The actual location is below.

In addition to being an inland state, the fact that Revel Surf is attracting attention is probably due to the fact that it is a wave pool equipped with a new wave-making device.

The mastermind behind Revel Surf is Matt Gunn, who had already created a 1/10 scale model wave in his garden about seven years ago.

Matt was originally a surfer who called Ventura home, but after moving to Arizona, he couldn’t surf anymore, so he started developing wave-making equipment.

The story begins with Matt teaming up with engineer John Bussey, who was a US Navy SEAL and was making wave-making equipment, and professional surfer Shane Beschen.

After that, they went through some challenging times, such as raising funds and dealing with the coronavirus pandemic, but they were able to make it to the point where they plan to open as a commercial facility.

From here on, the quality of the wave-making device is a concern for actual surfers.According to Shane, the interval between generation of artificial waves is 20 to 30 seconds.

The artificial waves will be able to be ridden right and left with A-frame split peaks, and eight surfers can participate in each one-hour session, and it seems that the number of waves that can be ridden in one session is about 12.

The type of wave can be customized as long as it is a long ride, barrel, air section, or private session, and they are hoping to host a stub high in the future.

From here, let’s check out the actual artificial waves.

Looking at the video above, the riding time seems to be about 10 seconds, which is a typical length for modern wave pools in recent years.

Roughly speaking, usage fees start from $119 (about 18,000 yen) for beginners, $129 (about 20,000 yen) for intermediate users, and $139 (about 21,000 yen) for advanced users. It has become.

This pricing is cheaper than its competitors BSR Surf Resort and PSSC, so it can be said to be a wave pool with excellent cost performance.

Regarding the wind direction, which is a concern since it is an outdoor modern wave pool, it was built with the calculation that there are two main wind directions in Arizona, and either the right or left side would be offshore.

Currently, it has not opened yet, but it is attracting attention on social media, with world champions such as Kelly Slater and Carissa Moore following it.

In the video above, Jacob Sheakley, also known as Zeke, a professional surfer who is emerging as a Youtuber, also visits.

However, there is one point to note: Sieg is wearing boots in the video, and there was a question about that in the comments section, and the facility’s response was, “It’s because the water temperature is 15 degrees.”

It’s quite cold at 15 degrees in November, and since Revel Surf is scheduled to be open all year round, you’ll need to be prepared to visit during the winter.
