Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will continue to star as Maggie and Negan after The Walking Dead series finale in the new spin-off Isle of the Dead, which will take the characters to New York.

Since 2019 there have been discussions about a possible spin-off around Maggie (Lauren Cohan) from The Walking Dead. Now the official announcement of Isle of the Dead is finally coming, where Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) also plays. It is already known that the story takes place in New York. Six episodes are being produced; showrunner is Eli Jorne (Heels, Son of Zorn), who has been involved in the parent series for several years.

Isle of the Dead is scheduled to go on air in 2023. In addition to the recently extended first offshoot Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond and the new anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead, which will start later this year, there will also be a format dedicated to the duo Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride). The Walking Dead itself ends with the current season eleven.

What is the new spin-off about?

Maggie and Negan travel together to post-apocalyptic Manhattan, which was sealed off from the mainland after all bridges and tunnels were destroyed. The city is filled with undead and survivors – there is anarchy and danger, but also beauty. We remember: Maggie and Negan have a very eventful past. He once killed her husband Glenn (Steven Yeun), although they are now on the same team. Actors Cohan and Morgan were also once in the superhero film “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘ as Bruce Wayne’s parents…

Scott M. Gimple, The Walking Dead franchise boss, on the new series and its showrunner: “Eli has created a chaotic, beautiful, filthy asylum of the dead for Negan, Maggie and fans of the series eager to explore an unseen and wacky world of the TWD universe. Lauren and Jeffrey have always been amazing collaborators, and now we’re taking that collaboration to the next level with a series that will push these characters to their limits with the world – and with each other. We’re all excited to take you into an all-new, all-different TWD epic for the ages.

Interestingly, Cohan left the zombie universe in 2018 after salary negotiations with AMC fell through. She returned in the finale of the tenth season – and now even wants to go into extra time or into the spin-off. She only came on board in season two.
