The new VRT building will be part of a new city site, which will eventually also include social housing, shops, schools and student rooms. A new tram stop will also be constructed, so that the site is better connected to the rest of Brussels. The iconic VRT tower, which is no longer used for technical activities, will remain standing.
“As the most important cultural institution in Flanders, it is essential that the VRT remains in Brussels, so I am very proud as a Brussels resident and competent minister of the new Media Park of which the VRT will be part,” says Flemish Minister of Media and Brussels Benjamin Dalle (CD&V ). “It will be a sustainable and modern building, but I am happy that the iconic VRT tower remains a landmark in our capital.”
