As they say in the message, penetrating into the gadget, this virus transfers user data to the operator and establishes full control over the device. The application can view and download messages, contacts, search history and even correspondence from instant messengers.
“Hook’s main target is banking applications owned by financial institutions around the world,” experts say.
Currently, the virus “pest” has been seen in the US, Spain, Australia, Poland, Canada, Turkey, UK, France, Italy and Portugal.
“Interestingly, among cybercriminals, Hook is distributed according to a service model. On the dark web, a ready-made set of hacker tools costs $7,000 per month of use,” says ThreatFabric.
According to researchers, Hook was created by the cybercrime group DukeEugene. They are also responsible for the development of other dangerous Android viruses, including BlackRock and ERMAC.
