New video footage from 1986 of the Titanic wreck is shown
New rare video footage showing the passenger ship “Titanic” at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean was released on Wednesday.
The footage from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) was filmed approximately 3 kilometers below the sea surface in 1986, shortly after the wreck was found in two parts southeast of the coast of Newfoundland on September 1, 1985.
Most of these recordings have not been made public before, writes the Reuters news agency.
The footage was presented in connection with the re-release of James Cameron’s film “Titanic”.
The passenger ship “Titanic” sank on its maiden voyage from England to the USA on the night of April 15, 1912, after hitting an iceberg. Around 1,500 people died.
