KOMPAS.com – Prof. Dr. Amin Soebandrio PhD, as Chair of the Eijkman Institute of Molecular Biology, said that new variants due to the mutation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes Covi-19 can continue to occur as long as community mobility is out of control.
According to Prof. Amin, the massive and uncontrolled mobility of the community is still very possible for the transmission of the virus, from one host to another new host.
Though, every time corona virus this finds a new host, or every time it is transmitted to other people, the virus will replicate (multiply).
“Well, that’s where the mutation occurs,” said Prof. Amin to Kompas.com, Saturday (13/3/2021).

For information, mutations are a definite and unavoidable feature of virus replicas.
Mutation is a condition in which the virus undergoes changes in the viral genetic material.
Mutations are commonplace and can happen, because there are so many supporting factors.
It could be in the form of genetic race, heredity, pathogens or other disease-causing microorganisms in the body and so on.
Mutations that occur in viruses are an effort to adapt or adapt the virus to be able to survive around its host (receptors) in the human body.
“Every time he multiplied in the replication process, random mutations would occur,” he explained.
So, said Prof. Amin, if we can limit and limit the space for the corona virus, and not transmit it to other people, then automatically we can suppress the growth and mutation replication of the corona virus.
As long as it is still transmitting to other people, it means that the virus still has a chance to mutate.
“So it is like a circle, if it is still contagious, it means that the pandemic is not over,” he said.
This is similar to what was conveyed by Indonesian Epidemiologist and Pandemic Researcher from Australia’s Griffith University Dicky Budiman in the news on Kompas.com, Wednesday (10/3/2021).
Dicky emphasized, if it continues to get out of hand, then a new variant of the corona virus others will still continue to appear.
Dicky said, the presence of a new variant of the corona virus in Indonesia was only in the early stages of phase 1 of the pandemic, and the implications of its general presence were not yet significant.
“Fortunately, this has not been too affected (the impact of the new variant), because this is only in the early stages,” said Dicky to Kompas.com, Selasai (9/3/2021).
