This new variant is called L452R, but scientists still don’t know if this variant is more contagious than other SARS CoV 2. But its appearance put the medics on alert.
The worrying thing about this variant is that it has caused an outbreak and spread in San Jose, California, infecting 90 people with Covid-19.
“The fact that this variant was found and caused an outbreak in our area is a red flag and should be investigated further,” said Santa Clara County Health Officer at Sara Cody.

This L452R variant is a different variant from the B.1.1.7, which first spread in England, which also spreads in Colorado and nine states in the United States.
Researchers estimate that the new strain of corona virus can dominate Covid-19 cases in March 2021, seeing from the trend and speed of its spread, especially for B.1.1.7 which spread in the UK and has arrived in the United States.
Luckily the Covid-19 vaccine that has been found at this time is proven to be able to ward off variant B.1.1.7 which has the ability to transmit 70 percent faster.
The biggest concern of the new variant, which is spreading more rapidly, is its ability to bring local or national health systems down. Because the faster the virus spreads, the more cases are found. Then people who experience serious symptoms do not get medical attention because the hospital is full, and that leads to an increase in the death rate.
