“For a country free of polio and measles” is the name of the new vaccination campaign that the Ministry of Health (Minsa) begins this July 3 in 12 regions and the constitutional province of Callao. The goal is for boys and girls under the age of 5 to complete their doses against polio and measles, diseases that cause disability and even death.
The goal is to vaccinate more than 2 million children under 5 years of age in Amazonas, Arequipa, Lambayeque, Lima, Loreto, Madre de Dios, Moquegua, Puno, San Martín, Tacna, Tumbes, Ucayali and the constitutional province of Callao, where there are gaps in vaccination coverage against polio and measles.

The launch of the campaign will be in Loreto, on Monday, July 3, at the Victoria Barcia Boniffatti Initial Educational Institution, where the minister César Vásquez Sánchez, the regional governor, René Chávez Silvano, among other local authorities, will participate. Likewise, the rest of the regions will start vaccination the first week of July.
It should be remembered that in Loreto, last March, a case of vaccine-derived poliovirus was registered in a child from a native community in the Datem del Marañón province. For this reason, the Minsa undertakes this new vaccination campaign, with the purpose of avoiding the outbreak of polio and measles in Callao and the 12 regions considered.
For this campaign, which will run until July 31, the Minsa has distributed more than 1.8 million vaccines against polio and measles nationwide, allocating more to the towns where house-to-house vaccination sweeps will be carried out.
The Minsa recalls that the vaccines purchased by the Peruvian State are safe, effective and of quality. In this sense, parents are called upon to take their sons and daughters under 5 years of age to health facilities to complete their doses against polio, measles and others from the National Vaccination Scheme.
