New US sanctions explained by “a surge of Russophobia”

The Russian Embassy in the United States called the new US sanctions against three Russian enterprises “another surge of Russophobia.” This was stated in a statement published on the embassy’s page in Facebook

Diplomats also recalled that only the UN Security Council has the right to apply such restrictions, and with good reason. “The administration again presented no official evidence,” the embassy noted.

Russian diplomats said they see in this approach another “surge of Russophobia,” as well as an attempt to ensure narrow-minded interests on the international market for defense technologies.

Formerly USA introduced sanctions against three Russian organizations: the Kumertau Aviation Production Enterprise, the military-industrial corporation Scientific and Production Association of Mechanical Engineering, and the Instrument Design Bureau.

The reason for the restrictions was allegedly a violation of US law. According to the American government, Moscow is spreading weapons of mass destruction in Iran, North Korea and Syria. The restrictions entered into force on February 3, their validity period will be two years.
