The French Blood Establishment has launched a new urgent appeal to the entire population. The reserves have barely 90,000 pockets when it would take 110,000 to spend the summer quietly.
The French Blood Establishment is once again launching a vital emergency appeal. A new emergency when already last February, the situation was critical and had led to this kind of call. Blood stocks are not being replenished, on the contrary, the situation tends to worsen. In France, we currently have a little less than 90,000 pockets while 110,000 are needed to be sure to spend a quiet summer.
Same situation in New Aquitaine, the region can only count on 7,000 pockets against the 10,000 that it would need. There are several explanations according to the officials of the sampling establishments. First the health crisis. It disrupted the collections, the donors were less numerous and according to the deputy head of the samples in Poitiers, doctor Julien Beauvais, “them people have changed their habits with the crisis.”
Another explanation, the lack of staff in hospitals “The EFS also has recruitment problems like the whole health system currently” explains Doctor Beauvais. A lack of staff which can lead to a drop in appointments.
A phenomenon confirmed by Dr. Brigitte Martin, head of the EFS of Niort “We also lack nurses, so it reduces the possibility of taking samples.”
And even if the Deux-Sèvres department has a surplus in the number of donations, it participates in the national effort and gives pockets to other establishments. It also notes a steady drop in the number of donors since the health crisis..
The great fear of the collection establishments is really to arrive at a lack of blood for patients whose operations have been programmed, for emergencies or for treatments such as chemotherapy for example.
To donate your blood, plasma or platelets, you must make an appointment with the establishment in your department.
