Several news have come from Miami that relate to this weekend and F1 in general.
Compared to last year, the FIA shortened two of the three DRS zones. In both cases, the DRS zones will be 75 meters shorter. The FIA also shortened the DRS zone by 100 meters a week ago in Baku, which the drivers criticized after the race. We’ll see how it goes in Miami, but last year the race wasn’t exactly lively.
New surface
On the other hand, the new surface should take care of the bigger action on the track. Locals laid it on each of the 5,412 meters of the track after only one year. The laid surface, which was additionally treated with a high-pressure water jet, should offer significantly better grip.
The aim of this measure is not only to increase the chance of overtaking, but also to increase tire wear. In this regard, the expected high temperatures, when the surface could heat up to 60 °C, will also “help”.
Vin Diesel
Already on Thursday, the circuit was lively. Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez filmed a scene for the next Fast and Furious movie at the finish line.
Safety car
And one more news that is not related to Miami. After the turmoil in Melbourne, there was a change from Baku (where we didn’t see it though). If the race is stopped by a red flag and subsequently restarted from fixed positions, the safety car will come out with a certain lead. The leader of the order will follow him later, so that he has enough space and the drivers can warm up the tires sufficiently when driving to the starting grid. In Melbourne, Sainz, who collided with Alonso and some others, complained about cold tyres.
A new and temporary procedure was introduced before Baku. The safety car should have entered the track 30 seconds earlier than the leader. Now it will even be 60 seconds.
