New update could be extremely annoying

Promised for a long time, it’s here today: a new messaging feature in Slack Connect. But the new function at Slack also has extreme nerve potential.

In October 2020, Slack already had it announced. Now it’s here: the brand new messaging feature in Slack Connect.

Starting today, Wednesday, everyone can use the function to send personal messages to all Slack Connect users.

Slack Connect: This is how the new messaging feature works

The special thing about the new function is that users of Slack Connect can send each other messages regardless of the channel, workspace or company and thus network individually.

The prerequisite for this is that you send an invitation to another person and they then accept the invitation. You are already networked and can send messages to each other.

These arrive as a private message.

The offer is somewhat reminiscent of Facebook Messenger, where you first have to network via a friendship invitation in order to be able to write private messages in the main inbox.

Initially only for paying customers

So far, the function, like Slack Connect, is only accessible to paying users. Connect was also launched for payment accounts in summer 2020. Up to 20 different companies can network with each other in one channel.

However, the message function by invitation is to be rolled out for everyone in the near future, Slack promises.

However, it is precisely then that the function could also develop great nerve potential. Because if everyone can suddenly network with one another, Slack takes on a stronger social media character, as does the professional networks LinkedIn or Xing.
