New Unlocking System for Mortal Kombat 1: Bringing a Fresh Approach to Rewarding Players’ Progression

In recent years, Mortal Kombat has done a great job expanding the traditional fighting game experience. One of the main components of this approach in the last few games has been the Krypt – a place where you can spend in-game currency to unlock costumes, brutalities, fatalities and other useful things for fighters. But, despite the fact that the Krypt is very popular with fans, series head Ed Boon revealed that his team is preparing something different for Mortal Kombat 1.

“We have a completely new system [разблокировки]”, – he told the PS Blog. “I can say that this is not a Krypt. But we will have a completely new unlocking system.”

The crypt in Mortal Kombat 11 was a fully explorable 3D space with a map that you could navigate around to open chests. But despite a slightly different concept, the RPG-style World Tour mode in the recently released Street Fighter 6 really expanded the game’s possibilities. And it would be great to see something like this mode.

Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) on September 19, 2023.
