“New Unity” decides on the further course of negotiations for the formation of the coalition

“Jaunā vietība” (JV) is currently discussing the further course of the coalition negotiations at the council meeting, informs JV.

The official part of the negotiations for the formation of the coalition has not yet been planned for this week, the party association explained.

On the other hand, the President of the State Egils Levits will meet Prime Minister Krišjāni Kariņa (JV) today at the Riga Palace at 16:00, who also took the initiative to form the next government.

After a meeting a week ago, on October 3, Levits authorized Karina to start consultations with other parties on the creation of a possible coalition. Kariņš was expected to inform Levitas about the results of the negotiations this week.

Last week did not bring much clarity as to whether and what kind of coalition the JV and its potential close partners will be able to agree. At present, it is unclear what role the “progressive” faction of the Saeima party will play at the end of the trial.

Kariņš expressed that “it would be better for the country” to have a broader coalition. He does not see such internal contradictions between the representatives of the JV, “United List” (AS), National Union (NA) and “Progressives” that would prevent the four parties from reaching an agreement.

NA, on the other hand, sees a viable model of governance in a three-party coalition along with the JV and AS. On Thursday, after the meeting of AS and NA, the politician of AS Uldis Pīlēns stressed that from this week the work to synthesize the work to be carried out should be started “in even more detail”.

On the other hand, the “progressives” party will invite both the SA and the National Union (NA) to talks this week to discuss possible cooperation, said the leader of the “progressives” Kaspars Briškens.

In the 14 elections of the Saeima, the best result was obtained by the JV, which won 26 mandates in the next Saeima, followed by the Union of Greens and Farmers – 16, AS – 15, NA – 13, “Stability!” – 11, “Progressives” – 10 and “Latvija first”, which won nine terms.
