New Ukraine jersey: protested by Russia, approved by UEFA

New Jersey Ukrainian National Team for Euro 2020 strongly protested by the government Russia. However, UEFA allowed Ukraine to appear in the uniform.

Ukraine has just released the jersey for the upcoming Euros. The Ukraine jersey is dominated by the yellow color that has been the hallmark of the national team along with the blue color on the sleeves and collar.

Meanwhile, the away jersey is dominated by blue with yellow on the sleeves and collar. They both have a sublimated map of Ukraine accented with the slogan “Glory to Ukraine!” on the back, while inside it is pinned with the slogan “Glory to the Heroes!”.

Both slogans are the official greetings of the Ukrainian army. At the launch event led by Ukrainian Football Federation (UAF) President Andriy Pavelko, Ukraine coach Andriy Shevchenko was also present.

Well, this new jersey then invites strong protests from the Russian government. Because, in the map on the Ukraine jersey, it still lists Crimea as the country’s territory.

Even though Russia had seized it from Ukraine in 2014. Unfortunately, the international community still recognizes Crimea as part of Ukraine.

This was the beginning of the increasingly heated Russia-Ukraine conflict that made Shakhtar Donetsk club expelled from its Donbass Arena cage. Because in Donetsk allegedly the headquarters of the Ukrainian separatists who support Russia.

Russia then tried to file a protest with UEFA and FIFA regarding the jersey made by the Spanish manufacturer, Joma. Even so, Russia had to bite the finger because it turned out that UEFA had given the green light for Ukraine to use the jersey at Euro 2020.

“Jersey Ukrainian national team and all other teams at Euro 2020 have been approved by UEFA, because they are in accordance with applicable regulations,” said UEFA’s official statement.
