A new type of frog found on the southern coast of Java

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — A a new kind of frog found on the South Coast of the lowland forests of Java. Chirixalus south coast sp. Nov. is a group of small Rhacophorid frogs with a male body length of 25.3 to 28.9 mm

After the morphological and molecular analysis using mitochondrial DNA and an advertisement call, the species did not match the species from the existing genera. Therefore, supported by morphological, molecular, and acoustic evidence, this species is described as a new species.

A researcher at the LIPI Biology Research Center, Amir Hamidy who is also one of the authors in this study, stated: Chirixalus south coast sp. Nov. morphologically most similar to Chirixalus nongkhorensis from Chonburi, Thailand.

“The color pattern of his back as well as genetically closest to Chirixalus trilaksonoi who also comes from West Java,” said Amir, in his statement, Monday (2/8).
