The route along “Hristo Botev” will pass behind the old parking lot and past the station. The traffic in the east-west direction will be shifted by about 50 meters to the south and will be between the railway lines and the house, and in the west-east direction – through the Central Station stop. It is planned to have three tracks, one of which will be for intercity transport.
In practice, the traffic will pass through the current bus station for Sofia in front of the central entrance of the station. Flights to the capital will use the lane closest to the station building, and the other will join the city route. In order to ensure the safety of citizens, it is planned to put up fences and close the underpass between the lanes. People will be able to use the underground facility next to the side entrance of the station.
The plans are to open the roundabout at the Central Station at the beginning of September and thus free traffic to “Ruski” and “Ivan Vazov” will be restored. However, the section of “Vasil Aprilov” from the wheel of the Central Station to the wheel of “Lyuben Karavelov” will remain completely closed, where the water supply and sewage system will be replaced.
The design decision of the contractor for the “Trace Group Hold” site has been submitted for approval to the Traffic Police. Alternative traffic routes will be announced publicly as soon as they are approved.
The project for the breakthrough under the Central Station is under NKŽI and should be completed in the middle of 2024. So far, it is not clear when the repair of the Concrete Bridge will begin. The only sure thing is that traffic along the “Moder – Tsarevets” tunnel must be opened first. However, there is a delay there, because work is being done on two separate projects – for a car underpass of the municipality of Plovdiv and for the construction of the South bypass collector of the Plovdiv Waterworks.
