New tourism director wants to strengthen the capital region

In the course of the retirement of the city’s head of tourism, Eva Prischl, and the strategic repositioning and further development of the city’s tourism course, an innovative leader in the form of a tourism director was sought. There were a total of 80 applicants for the position. Stefan Bauer, who will take over the newly integrated position in the town hall in February 2023, prevailed. Mayor Matthias Stadler is convinced of the new Director of Tourism: “I am very pleased that we have found a worthy successor for Eva Prischl in Stefan Bauer. With his many years of experience as a tourism manager, authorized signatory and managing director in Lower Austria, he is ideally qualified to continue the successes of his predecessor and to further advance the tourist positioning of St. Pölten”.

Connect and evolve

The new tourism director, Stefan Bauer, is responsible as the central contact and designer for the strategic positioning and further development of the tourism offer on the outskirts of Vienna. In close cooperation with the leading companies in the city, the Destination Mostviertel, the Lower Austria Tourist Office and other tourism partner organizations, Stefan Bauer will take over the strategic and commercial management of the Lower Austria Central Tourism Association. The main themes of his work will be tourism projects in the capital region, such as the further positioning of St. Pölten as a cycling destination and as a hotel location. “I would like to bring the spirit and dynamism that has been felt in St. Pölten in recent years to the city’s tourism brand. The close cooperation with the leading companies in St. Pölten and the region is particularly important to me”, says the new tourism director Stefan Bauer ambitiously.

Tourism Provincial Councilor Jochen Danninger continues to rely on a close partnership: “I wish Stefan Bauer every success as Tourism Director of the City of St. Pölten. A touristically attractive state capital is of great importance for the development of our state. We therefore want to work together even more closely and focus more on the popular offers in the capital region for everything to do with culture, cycling and wine”.

Many years of experience as a tourism manager

Stefan Bauer worked for Niederösterreich-Werbung GmbH for 15 years, including six years as an authorized signatory. There he was able to gain many years of experience as a tourism manager, among other things as head of the departments “Product and Theme Management” and “Destination Management”. Parallel to his employment at Niederösterreich-Werbung, he was also active in the management of Wienerwald Tourismus GmbH. Previously, he was employed by the SalzburgerLand Tourismus Gesellschaft for eight years, where he worked as a press officer and head of marketing for Germany and Austria. From 2013 to last year, Stefan Bauer passed on his knowledge as a part-time lecturer at the IMC University of Applied Sciences in Krems in the “Tourism and Leisure Management” course.

Other tasks and responsibilities in his tourism profile also included his work as a member of the supervisory board in numerous Lower Austrian destination companies, his active participation in the “PlanT” master plan for tourism of the federal government and the planning and implementation of tourism projects as part of the “ARGE Donau Austria”.
