Video sharing service TikTok has announced that it is introducing a set of tools that will allow users to tag posts that have been created or enhanced by artificial intelligence (AI). The move comes after the company added a number of video filters that made extensive use of AI, and also started offering an image generator that helps create unique backgrounds.
The new labels aren’t exclusive to TikTok’s AI-powered filters. A user may tag any post that is entirely generated or substantially enhanced by AI, regardless of where the content is sourced.
At the same time, the company emphasizes that the new post-marking tools are not entirely mandatory. TikTok’s usage policy clearly states that any AI-generated post that resembles a “realistic image, audio or video” must be flagged to prevent the spread of misleading content. To distinguish such content, the user can also use other solutions without labels, such as digital stickers or a description that clearly indicates that the content was created by artificial intelligence.
But given that everyone makes inaccuracies and mistakes, TikTok is developing its own tools that will automatically tag AI-generated posts. True, it is not yet known when they will be launched.
