Do you remember back when Bruce Willis was making good films? But not only in the 80s, but also in the 2000s, it produced quite a few pearls – including “Lucky # Slevin”, which you can watch from today with a subscription on Amazon Prime Video.
+++ opinion +++
Bruce Willis is not only known for long-ago action cult like “Die Hard” or “Last Boy Scout”, but also delivered a lot of highlights after the turn of the millennium. “Lucky Number Slevin” feels comparatively like one of his “newer” films – at least that’s what I think, until I finally realized: I even borrowed the film from the video store back then. You know, the kind of guy you had to go to the door for.
So the film has a few years under its belt, namely it is from 2006. And yet I will probably never forget the aha moment that it once gave me. Despite the megastar cast, I didn’t really know what to expect in “Lucky # Slevin”. And it was fine like that! So before I say another word about the movie, I recommend to everyone with a Prime subscription to put “Lucky Number Slevin” directly on the watch list and to watch as “blindly” as possible. As of today, the film is available with a subscription from Amazon Prime Video at no additional cost:

For everyone else, I nonetheless want to outline as briefly as possible and of course, completely spoiler-free, why “Lucky Number Slevin” is worthwhile.
“Lucky Number Slevin”: Thriller fun with many stars
Josh Hartnett, Morgan Freeman, Stanley Tucci, Lucy Liu, Ben Kingsley, Corey Stoll and Bruce Willis – a quick look at the cast is enough to at least get curious. And yes, the mood of this impressive star ensemble actually contributes significantly to the high entertainment value of “Lucky Number Slevin”. To see such top-class actors * united in front of the camera, who also visibly enjoy their quirky roles, just kindles a very special energy. And that transfers directly to the audience.
In addition, you just cheer poor Slevin (Hartnett) when he experiences the worst day of his life: First he is stolen, only to fall victim to a mix-up and in the middle of a feud between the two most notorious City gang bosses – the “Boss” and the “Rabbi” (Freeman and Kingsley) – to guess. And what does the professional killer Goodkat (Willis) have to do with all of this?
The best films on Amazon Prime Video
Director Paul McGuigan (“Sherlock”, “Carnival Row”) throws just enough breadcrumbs in his twisty thriller to keep his audience engaged and at the same time leave them in the dark – and in the end to arrive with a resolution with which they The least likely to have expected …
Since I would run the risk of anticipating too much with every further word, I just want to say one more thing at this point: If you are into lively tension cinema or entertaining ensemble films, funny gangster entertainment à la Guy Ritchie (“Snatch”, ” The Gentlemen ”), you will have as much fun with“ Lucky Number Slevin ”as I did.
