Lenovo is launching new laptops in its ThinkPad range at MWC. In addition, the manufacturer is launching Premier Support Plus: a service that guarantees lightning-fast support worldwide.
At MWC in Barcelona, Lenovo introduces a major refresh of its business laptop portfolio. We see a lot of new ThinkPads, but we also notice a new support formula: Lenovo Premier Support Plus.
Flax fiber
First, let’s take a look at the new laptops. Last year, Lenovo introduced the ThinkPad Z series. The Z laptops stood out for the AMD Ryzen processors inside, but also for the focus on ecology. At MWC this year, Lenovo is presenting a refresh of the Z range. Specifically, both the ThinkPad Z13 Gen 2 and Z16 Gen 2 appear. Both laptops come with AMD’s latest mobile processors under the hood. Those are CPUs from the AMD Ryzen 7000 series. It’s a year old in itself, but it’s still very competitive compared to Intel’s CPUs.
You can configure the laptops with a maximum of 32 GB RAM and a 2 TB SSD. Just like last year, the devices look slightly different from the majority of the ThinkPad series, thanks to a visible housing for the FHD camera at the top, but also the materials. For example, you can order the ThinkPad Z13 Gen 2 with a housing that is made from one piece of flax fiber: a waste product of the agricultural industry.
ThinkPad X met Intel
For the ThinkPad X13 Gen 4 and X13 Yoga Gen 4, Lenovo integrates the latest Raptor Lake processors from Intel. Those who are not interested in Intel’s thirteenth generation of Core CPUs can opt for an AMD Ryzen 7000 Mobile processor with the non-flexible ThinkPad X16. The laptop is also configurable with a 13.3-inch 2.8K OLED screen. Lenovo is still unpacking with technology that should limit blue light in the screen, but research has already shown that there are no demonstrable health benefits associated with this.
Lenovo also takes the opportunity to refresh the ThinkPad T, E and L series. The new devices have been slightly modified compared to the previous generation, but do not contain any drastic innovations. Finally, Lenovo shows a new ThinkCentre Tiny-In-One (TIO). This is an all-in-one system with space for a modular computer module. This way you can refresh the PC part of the research assistant without throwing the screen away.
Durability and support
Lenovo points to various environmental efforts in the construction of the laptops, such as the integration of sustainable and recycled materials and thoughtful packaging with bamboo instead of plastic. The manufacturer has confidence in its devices, but knows that devices sometimes break down. With that in mind, Lenovo introduces its Premier Support Plus.
Lenovo Premier Support Plus is a support contract that allows customers anywhere in the world to contact a technician at any time. If something is definitely broken, someone will come on site and customers will be given priority in terms of availability of spare parts. In addition, as part of the Plus version, Lenovo guarantees that you can keep track of the drive of the device in question at all times. This way, data is not at risk, which can be useful for compliance in regulated sectors.
