One of the things I complained about in my review of Cities: Skylines II was the sometimes glaring lack of objects that can be placed on the map. Although I criticized in particular the impossibility of designing your own parks or other places outside the main building zones, it would certainly be nice to have more themes at hand. With these, the developers mark the types of buildings in individual zones – currently North American and European – and in the future, perhaps, objects in other tabs of the construction menu. However, we will be able to fully see how they handle the themes, because eight packages have been announced, which will also be distributed completely free of charge as part of Paradox Mods.
The place where the eight themes should show up the most is the style switch when determining individual zones. In addition to the aforementioned North American and European styles, a Japanese, Chinese, French, British, German and Eastern European package will be added, with the North American one being divided into East and West Coast styles.
In a short teaser, the developers promise over 2,500 new objects, which sounds like the promise of themed buildings for individual services and perhaps parks and decorations in general. With regard to the possibilities of Cities: Skylines II, it offers not only the construction of adequate-looking cities, but also the expansion of cities by various districts, as is usual in metropolises.
The fact that Colossal Order developers are working on packages with community members and well-known mod authors such as Titan, bsquiklehousen, Darf, RichardShi, MacWelshman, Badi_Dea, Feindbold or Gurny is also promising. In other words, a connector – I’m doing it for love, it will probably be of high quality – could make an impression here, and the result will hopefully be something that will enrich the city in its entirety. Unfortunately, Paradox has not set a release date for the new themes yet, but they should be available soon.
The first patch is out
At the end of the report on the expansion, we also bring a warning that a few days ago they released the developers from Colossal Order the first major patch, which should address the optimization of the game. For example, the developers focused on the level of detail, which is now separated from the selected resolution, there were adjustments to the depth of field effect, the lighting of the entire game or the optimization of various jams and tearing. The developers have also fixed several bugs and of course intend to continue improving the game. The patch is currently only available on Steam, but it should also apply to the version played through the Microsoft Store as soon as possible.
