Biden writes that early on Saturday he had a meeting with security advisers and military leaders.
The topic of the meeting was, among other things, the drone attack in Afghanistan where two IS leaders were killed, in response to the attack at the airport gate on Thursday where over 180 were killed, among them 13 American soldiers.
– This attack will not be the last. We will continue the hunt for anyone involved in the horrific terrorist attack and hold them accountable, he writes.
Biden believes that the situation in Kabul is extremely dangerous and that a new terrorist attack on the airport is likely within 24 to 36 hours.
Condemns the drone attack
Two high-ranking IS members were killed in a US drone strike in Afghanistan on Friday.
Despite the fact that the Taliban and the regional IS offshoot are sworn enemies, Afghanistan’s new rulers are unhappy with the US operation.
– The Americans should have informed us before they carried out the attack. It was a clear attack on Afghan territory. Two people were killed and two women and a child were injured in the attack, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told Reuters.
Thousands are waiting for evacuation
The United States is in the final stages of evacuation from Afghanistan.
The evacuation of citizens from the United States and other NATO countries and Afghans who have helped them or for other reasons may be threatened, continued late Saturday.
US authorities say around 112,000 people have been flown out of the country since August 14, the day before the Taliban took control.
There are still around 5,000 people inside the airport waiting to be evacuated.
