New Terminid Threat “Shriekers” Emerges in Helldivers 2, CEO Denies Existence

There’s a new Terminid threat on the horizon, and Super-Earth doesn’t want us to know about it. Reports from Helldivers 2 players suggest that a new type of enemy has joined the fray: a breed of bug, possibly called “Squealer”. They travel in packs, attack from the skies, and look pretty damn annoying.

All this can be seen in a video posted on the Helldivers 2 subreddit by user Projectpatdc, who seemed to be very surprised when he was suddenly attacked by an unknown Terminid enemy. On Reddit, user Litnos also shared the observation, adding that the Shriekers appeared as a random side target, similar to Stalkers.

In the clip, Projectpatdc is in the middle of a standard mission to clean up an oil refinery on difficulty level 5 when the Shriekers air raid begins. One hit takes away about half the health, and the pest immediately flies back into the sky. In the distance we see an unfamiliar structure – glowing tree-shaped objects – similar to nests that must be destroyed to stop the Shriekers from appearing.

The evidence seems irrefutable. The unexpected sightings coincide with the start of a major order that has added an additional type of mission to Helldivers 2. The perfect opportunity to throw in another surprise, with Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt deciding to play along.

I have heard rumors about flying bugs in Helldivers 2. I want to officially refute such ridiculous claims. Everyone knows that “bugs can’t fly.” And I’m not alone in this opinion. The Ministry of Truth agrees that this is propaganda from bug sympathizers who want to brainwash good people.

In response on a tweet One fan circled what definitely looks like a flying bug on the official Helldivers 2 cover, which Pilestedt dismissed as “treasonous image manipulation.”

The arrival of the Shriekers is the latest in a seemingly endless pile of surprises Arrowhead has in store for its hit co-op shooter, which still ranks as the best-selling game on Steam a month after launch.

Last week, players fought (and quickly won) a mini-war to unlock mechs. And coming soon is a new premium War Bond with new weapons, armor, and cosmetic items.
