“Train, support, inspire” are the key words of the new teaching chair “agriculture for women” of the’Angers Higher School of Agriculture. This was launched on February 20, as part of the 2nd National Meetings on the Return to the Earth and the Future of Territories organized on its campus with the Back To Earth association, “after several months of work on the gender issues and numerous exchanges with the agricultural world.”

“For more open, diverse and attractive agricultural sectors”
Financed by the school’s endowment fund, the Farmers’ Campus, for an initial period of three years, it aims to train and mobilize stakeholders in the sector on subjects linked to diversity in agriculturefor’improve the visibility of women in the agricultural sectorin farms, companies, decision-making bodies, and the attractiveness of professions towards them.
“We will thus contribute to making the agricultural and food sectors more open, more diverse, more attractive. To do this, we are bringing together all those concerned – companies, associations involved as Vox Demeter et Back to Earthstudents and teachers – around a network of inspiring women”, presents Nicolas Brouté, director of business relations, alumni, patronage and holder of the “women’s agriculture” chair.
Facilitate their access to professions, financing and markets
Through the chair, “entrepreneurial initiatives andaccess of women to professions, markets, financing and opportunities” in agriculture. Excellence scholarships will be allocated to “young female talents” to reward “their commitment and achievements”, and help them in the implementation of their projects.
Mentoring programs will help support them in their professional journey. Their development of skills and their success will be favored by the sharing of knowledge and experience, in particular by involving experts. Modules, workshops and conferences will be dedicated specifically to this theme. To encourage vocations, promotional actions are also planned in high schools and colleges, with testimonials from farmers.
Information collection, analysis and research work will also be carried out internally and externally, thanks to partnerships, in our country and abroad. One-off events will bring together all stakeholders: webinars, round tables, conferences. In order to follow developments in the agricultural world, Esa had already set up the “Ecologically Intensive Agriculture” and “Agricultural Changes” chairs.
