The Task Force Covid Therapeutics, the recently established task force that should consider the possible purchase of corona medicines, gives a favorable opinion on Paxlovid, the corona drug from pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

Paxlovid is currently under evaluation by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and is not currently authorized on the European market. “But it appears to be showing promising results in treating patients at increased risk for severe Covid-19,” the Task Force Covid Therapeutics said in a press release.
While there are still uncertainties about efficacy, safety and appropriate use (particularly in the elderly and/or patients already taking other medications), the task force advises the Belgian government “to proceed with the purchase of 10,000 treatments through a bilateral contract”. “If necessary, additional purchases may follow.”
