– Currently, the omicron variant subvariant is reaping the harvest – explained Prof. Boroń-Kaczmarska. She pointed out that diagnostic tests for detection have been rarely performed recently. COVID-19 infections. – In the vast majority of people, the infection is quite mild – she added. She emphasized that in recently recorded cases, in addition to fever, muscle pain and a sense of malaise, the disease is also accompanied by symptoms such as nausea or even diarrhea.

Increase in disease incidence over the months

When asked about the number of cases nationwide, the epidemiologist pointed out that it is difficult to assess it based on the tests performed. Instead, she referred to official data from the report of the Epidemiology Department of the National Institute of Hygiene, which indicates “a significantly higher level of cases than in previous months.”

– This situation resembles last year’s phenomenon. We have, as it were, a summary of the holidays – frequent and numerous large meetings of adults and children. It only takes one person in such an environment who would be infected, and the infection spreads – explained Prof. Boroń-Kaczmarska. She expressed hope that after the return to schools and the end of the holiday season, the number of cases will start to decrease.
