The next Nintendo Switch model will use Nvidia’s DLSS technology to deliver better graphics. It reports Bloomberg in a new report.
Upscale 4K on TV
Rumors of DLSS are the latest in a long line of predictions for an upgraded Switch – which for the record have not yet been officially confirmed by Nintendo. Sources with knowledge of the situation say, however, that the plan is to start selling the console sometime before Christmas.
With DLSS – or Deep Learning Super Sampling – the console will be able to upscale image quality without significantly compromising performance. In TV mode, the Switch is supposed to be able to reach up to 4K resolution.
According to Bloomberg’s sources, the use of this technology will admittedly require that games be updated with a new code. Thus, the solution will probably be more relevant for future games, and it is not at all certain that Nintendo has plans for, for example, Breath of the Wild with DLSS.
The new Nvidia chip will otherwise provide both better processing power and increased memory. Previous reports also report one upgrade to the Switch screen, with a seven-inch OLED variant from Samsung. According to Bloomberg, all this could mean a price increase of between 500 and 1000 kroner, but whether the rumors are true remains to be seen.
