New Swiss Supercomputer established

The supercomputer is used, for example, for weather forecasting by the Federal Meteorological Office (Meteoswiss). In addition, it will, among other things, make calculations for climate and in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

To do the calculations that the “Alps” can do in one day, a standard laptop would need 40,000 whole years, as explained by Michele De Lorenzi, deputy director and communications officer at the Swiss High Performance Computing Center (CSCS). the Keystone-SDA news agency.

In the Top 500 list of supercomputers from June, the high-performance computer took sixth place worldwide. In the future it could be even higher in the world ranking, because it was not fully developed yet in June.
