New surveillance footage shows the moment two Florida Memorial University (FMU) students were fatally struck and killed in Miami Gardens earlier this year.
Video released by the Miami-Dade Prosecutor’s Office shows the accident that occurred on February 12 in which Asiayanna Green, 19, and Shar’raiyah Story, 18, died.
Miami Gardens police officials said the driver of a silver Infiniti was traveling south on Northwest 42nd Avenue around 11:30 pm when he struck the two women, who were walking south in the center lane.
The published images show two vehicles passing by the young women before a third one runs them over.
Green and Story, FMU freshmen, died at the scene, which led to the fleeing driver who got out of the car and left the scene on foot but was apprehended a short time later, police confirmed.
Jerome Harrell, 36, initially faced two charges for leaving the scene of an accident. Four counts were later added, including two counts of DUI manslaughter and two counts of vehicular manslaughter.
Court records show that Harrell was convicted in 2014 of leaving the scene of an accident in Opa-locka.
