The new surface of Road America’s road course was a given for everyone before approaching the race weekend. However, the results of this new surface seem to go in the direction of the pilots, who quickly adapted during qualifying, breaking the lap records in 4 of the 5 classes of the IMSA championship.
By setting the benchmark time for this session, Pipo Derani opened the ball with a time of 1’47”730, erasing the previous mark of almost a second (1’48”715), set by Dane Cameron in 2019. The first 7 cars of the session also completed a lap below this cap.
LM P3
If there is no record to report in LM P2, it is the young Chilean Nico Pino, who steals the fastest lap on the circuit in LM P3, at the wheel of the Ligier JS P320 n°33 of Sean Creech Motorsport. Arriving on the job to replace Lance Willsey, alongside Joao Barbosa, the 18-year-old crossed the line in 1′57”930, eclipsing Malthe Jakobsen’s previous mark by 1.504 seconds.

GTD Pro et GTD
On the GTD Pro side, Alex Riberas was the fastest in the Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3. His lap of 2’02.918 allows him to set the fastest time on the track in his class – which Jack Hawksworth has held since 2022 – by more than two seconds.
“With this resurfacing, driving on this circuit is both extremely tricky, but also very pleasant because it’s really fast”said the Spaniard after the session.

Pole position for the GTDs went to Madison Snow, in Paul Miller Racing’s n°1. With a time of 2′03”291, he set a final record on the American circuit, being 2 seconds faster than his predecessor, Ben Keating (2′05”250 in 2019).
