New Subway and Tram Routes in Frankfurt: Impact on Kleeacker Allotment Garden Revealed

The new subway and tram routes could reduce the size of the Kleeacker facility in Fechenheim.

The magistrate has good and bad news for the members of the Kleeacker allotment garden association.

First the good: As part of the construction of the North Main S-Bahn, no allotment garden areas will likely be required. The city had already begun planning to continue Ernst-Heinkel-Strasse from Hanauer Landstrasse via Orber Strasse to Waechtersbacher Strasse as part of the S-Bahn expansion. Under certain circumstances, the allotment gardens would have had to give way.

“These plans were initially not pursued further,” said the city at the request of Local Advisory Board 11 (Fechenheim, Riederwald, Seckbach). “No use of the space is expected for the North Main S-Bahn project.”

But the bad news: “As part of the investigations to update the overall transport plan of the city of Frankfurt am Main – part Rail 2035+, the establishment of a direct tram connection from Frankfurt to Offenbach is being examined.” Specifically, a route that comes from Offenbach via the Ernst-Heinkel-Strasse, thewachterbacherstrasse runs to Gwinnerstrasse or even to Enkheim. “Parts of the Kleeacker allotment garden would be used by such a tram.” However, the magistrate cannot say more details until the first quarter of 2024 at the earliest, when the results of the investigation are available.

In accordance with the overall rail transport plan, an underground connection from Am Erlenbruch street via Waechtersbacher Straße to the planned S-Bahn station of the North Main S-Bahn should also be examined. The allotment garden would also be affected by this.
