New subsidy schemes for charging infrastructure for vans and trucks

THE HAGUE – Two new subsidy schemes for infrastructure costs will open soon. With the new schemes, entrepreneurs can apply for a subsidy to install charging infrastructure. Money is also available for advice.

The number of electric vans and trucks in the Netherlands is growing so more and more charging options are needed for the transport sector. The Netherlands is on the way to zero-emission transport by 2050. Many vehicles will then be electric. The schemes are intended to accelerate the transition to electric logistics transport, such as e-trucks, electric vans and electric buses.

It is possible to apply for SPRILA from Tuesday, September 24, 9:00 am. SPRILA stands for ‘Subsidy Scheme for Private Tax Infrastructure for Companies’ and is for entrepreneurs who want to invest in charging points on their own or rented premises. It is possible to apply for SPULA from 1 October. SPULA stands for ‘Subsidy Scheme for Heavy Transport Public Tax Infrastructure’ and is intended to raise public charge points for heavy road transport.

SPRILA: Private cost infrastructure purchase

A condition for the SPRILA is that charging infrastructure is installed on private (or leased) property, for example an industrial estate or a distribution center. With the Purchase of SPRILA, an entrepreneur is reimbursed for part of the costs for the purchase and installation of charging points for electric vehicles (including electric passenger cars). The amount of the subsidy depends on the size of the company and the capacity of the tax station. SMEs will get up to 40 percent of the costs back, large companies up to 20 percent.

Battery

If there is insufficient grid capacity, it is also possible to apply for an additional subsidy for a stationary battery per charging point. A challenge when installing infrastructure is the cost of the limits of the electricity network. Sometimes your own battery storage can provide a solution. A battery can fully charge during the day and charge one or more vehicles at night. Part of the purchase costs for such a stationary battery is reimbursed through SPRILA Aankoop and SPULA.

SPRILA Council

It is also possible to apply for a subsidy to receive external advice on installing charging points and making better use of space on the electricity network. Up to fifty percent of consulting fees are reimbursed. In this way, the government wants to prevent entrepreneurs from canceling investments due to lack of knowledge. A total of more than €42 million will be available for SPRILA Aankoop and SPRILA Advice in 2024.

SPULA: publicly accessible charging infrastructure for heavy transport

The purpose of the SPULA is to facilitate distribution cost places accessible to the public for heavy road transport. The subsidy is for entrepreneurs who incur costs for the construction or expansion of the cost infrastructure that will contribute to a national network for heavy electric vehicles. The charging points must be placed in a place that is always accessible to the public. If there is insufficient grid capacity, it is possible to apply for an additional subsidy for a stationary battery per charging point. A budget of €15 million is available for SPULA in 2024.

In consultation with the department

The two subsidy schemes were established in consultation with the transport department. For example, there was consultation with trade groups and SMEs. There was an internet consultation for both schemes.

To request

The subsidy schemes are implemented by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) on behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. It is possible to apply for a subsidy through the RVO website. It is possible to apply for a subsidy for SPRILA Purchase and Advice from Tuesday, September 24, 9 am to December 31, 2024, 12 noon. Applications for SPULA are possible from Tuesday, October 1, 9 am to December 31, 2024, 12 noon. Applications will be processed according to the date they are received.
