New study: How many people from Chemnitz actually had Corona contact?

Chemnitz has also been involved in a study since Wednesday that investigates the question of how many people have actually had contact with the corona virus.

Chemnitz – The official infection numbers are known. But how many people actually had contact with that Coronavirus? The Helmholtz Center for Infection Research (Braunschweig) is investigating this question in a nationwide study. Since Wednesday is also in Chemnitz tested.

Eight German cities take part in the study. Social Mayor Ralph Burghart (50, CDU) is pleased that Chemnitz is there: “The more data and test results we receive on the corona pandemic, the better and faster we can overcome it together.”

Prof. Gérard Krause (56) from the Helmholtz Center presented the study in the town hall: “We have 8,000 randomly selected citizens from Chemnitz, Taura, Auerbach, Limbach-Oberfrohna, St. Egidien, Hartmannsdorf, Hainichen, Zwönitz, Niederdorf and Hohenstein- Ernstthal invited to the blood test and hope for 3000 voluntary participants. ” The action will be repeated in July.

The test subjects should give their blood in the former Technical Town Hall, Annaberger Straße 93, by the end of March. The blood is examined in the laboratory for antibodies against corona.

Goal: How many people have antibodies from infection or vaccination? How long are people immune to the virus? Do members of certain professional groups have a conspicuously high number of antibodies?

“The results could change the vaccination strategy in the future,” says Gérard Krause.
