New storm alert in Colombia would affect Antioquia

The Colombian Caribbean is on alert for a climate threat that could intensify in the coming hours due to a tropical wave located in the center of the Caribbean Sea.

A climate alert has been activated in the Colombian Caribbean due to a tropical wave that could become a cyclone, with intense rains and electrical storms.

According to IDEAM, this new threat presents a 40% probability of cyclonic development in the next 48 hours and 80% in the next seven days that would add to the already constant storms and torrential rains.

Although a direct impact on Colombian territory is not expected, the interaction of this tropical wave with other atmospheric systems is generating dangerous conditions: heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind that could impact the Caribbean coast and the archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina.

The IDEAM alert

He Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (IDEAM) has issued alerts at two levels for different areas of the country: state of “Surveillance” in the western Caribbean coast and “Notice” in the center and east of the coast, as well as in the island area. The risk of precipitation and winds that could alter the tide is latent, and the authorities have activated contingency protocols.
