New soon for WhatsApp on iOS

An update has just been released for the WhatsApp messaging app on iOS. This is version 2.21.40. According to the information, this new update differs from the previous version by the presence of a new animation for voice messages. It also makes it possible to deactivate the “read” option for voice messages if the corresponding setting is chosen.

Compared to the old version, it would seem that the news has very few changes. Also, no update has been released for Android yet. Thus, it is still unclear whether the new functionality will be kept or removed from iOS during the next update.

The new update has not yet appeared in the changelog. However, it is already available online on the App Store.

Changing the messaging service

According to the report by WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp feature tracker, version 2.21.40 only made a few tweaks to the messaging service.

The changes mainly concern voice messages. A new progress bar animation is displayed when listening to a voicemail message. When the bar reaches the end of the message, it automatically returns to the beginning. According to the report, however, this feature is only available for iOS 13 and systems that came out afterwards.

The option to confirm that you have read voice messages has also undergone a small change. From now on, the contact who sends a voice message will no longer be notified when the user listens to his message. But it must first deactivate the read receipt option. To proceed with the deactivation, you must go to “WhatsApp Settings”, click on “Account”, then enter “Confidentiality”.

The previous update

In November of last year, the previous WhatsApp update was released for iOS and Android, and with it came a new feature. This is the feature that allows users to automatically delete WhatsApp messages after seven days.

To use this feature on Android, you have to open the chats individually and then click on the menu icon on the upper right corner of the screen. Then, you must select the option “Show contact” then activate “Disappearing messages”.

On iOS, you have to open the discussion then click on the profile icon. All you have to do is scroll down to “Disappearing messages” and activate it.
