After 17 years, the Grip op je Dip website was in need of a thorough upgrade. With the intervention website, the Trimbos Institute focuses on young people between the ages of 16 and 25 who suffer from (mild) mood complaints. They can go there for information or an (anonymous) online chat course. It consists of six online group meetings, together with other young people.
The site also offers them the opportunity to e-mail with mental health professionals. The aim of the website is to help young people in an early phase to reduce depressive symptoms such as sadness, worrying and negative thoughts.
Chat course for mood complaints
In the updated version of Grip on your Dip the emphasis is mainly on the online chat course and contact with mental health professionals. Those two options are now prominently displayed on the home page of the website. In addition, young people can also do a ‘Diptest’ and of course still go for relevant information about their complaints.
With the new design, Grip op je Dip has become a lot more accessible. “A free, anonymous online offer for preventing depression in young people is unique in the Netherlands and especially important in this day and age,” says Lotte Voorham, Grip op je Dip project manager.
The fact that the site is being renewed after 17 years does not mean that nothing has changed in the meantime. In 2019 Grip on your Dip further developed for the general practitioner and POH-GGZ practice and an app was also launched. The value of the site was once again emphasized in 2020 when the corona pandemic – and in particular the lockdowns – showed that more young people than ever were struggling with gloominess. They appeared to benefit greatly from a new, blended, variant of the Grip on your Dip online group course.
