New Signal Features Allegedly Similar to WhatsApp

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Instant messaging application Signal made by the founder WhatsApp Brian Acton is now bringing in a number of additional features after getting a surge in new users. These features make Signal look like WhatsApp.

Quoted from The Verge On Monday (1/2), the iOS (5.3.1) and Android (5.3.7) version of Signal update brought several features such as chat room wallpapers, animated stickers, and an “about” feature on the user’s profile page.

In the application update the user can select a number of presets to set the wallpaper or chat background. Features like this are already available on WhatsApp.

The ‘about’ feature which allows users to post status on user profiles is also similar to WhatsApp.

While on iOS it provides changes that are considered efficient in terms of data, including iPhone users can reduce data usage during calls and provide options for file downloads.

In addition to that, it claims to update the image compression quality to improve the quality of the files sent.

Signal also complements the display on iOS which makes it closer to features like on Android.

Android Police reported, Signal has also launched a beta version of the application on Android on January 11.

Messaging apps like Signal and Telegram have seen a spike in growth in recent weeks. Signal was assisted by a recommendation from Tesla CEO Elon Musk who published it via Twitter.

Both of them get an abundance of users from WhatsApp due to Facebook’s new privacy which is considered confusing to most users.

Signal has long been a popular messaging option for those focused on communication security.

Government commissions in Europe have also appealed to staff to switch to the application since February 2020 because Signal focuses on encrypted security features.

With the display update, Signal is now considered to be getting closer to being accepted by its users.

Quoted from NewsBytes, Signal is a non-profit instant messaging platform that is unlike other conventional messaging platforms. Signal operates using private funding and donation fees.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently admitted to donating funds to the Signal Foundation. This is in line with the teasing that invites WhatsApp users to switch to an alternative platform that is considered user-friendly.
