The Henri-Dunant hospital in La Charité-sur-Loire is optimistic. Thanks to the arrival of two doctors, new services have just opened or reopened.
“We are writing a new page, that of a rebirth for the hospital. Since the departure of the head of department in February 2022, medicine has been closed. Until now, we have managed decline, now we are in a growth phase. » The deputy director of the Henri-Dunant hospital center, Sandrine Renaudin, sets the tone.
Since the arrival of the two doctors at the beginning of September, “we have relaunched the activity of the medical care and rehabilitation service (SMR)”, she rejoices. And that’s not all, the geriatrics hospital of La Charité-sur-Loire reopened, at the beginning of October, the “medical day hospital”.
“It’s outpatient general medicine. We are not replacing a general practitioner,” explains Roberto Isturiz, one of the two newly arrived doctors. “We do acute medicine. You enter in the morning and you leave in the evening for a specific act. »
Two new doctors have chosen the Henri-Dunant hospital
Procedures prescribed by your attending physician. “Information has been provided to general practitioners in the sector,” intervenes Doctor Françoise Perrier, the head of the geriatrics department.
A capacity of around thirty beds instead of twenty
As for the SMR service, “we have a capacity of around thirty beds whereas we only had twenty before,” explains Sébastien Cliquennois, the second newly arrived doctor.
These beds are essential in the Nièvre regional hospital group to relieve congestion in emergency rooms and other hospitals.

Not to mention that from now on, this SMR service also welcomes “people in palliative care or those passing through before the home is adapted so that they can return home.
The Henri-Dunant hospital is labeled a local hospital,” recalls Sandrine Renaudin, “and that makes perfect sense. It is the care that goes to the patient. »
Experimentation with an activity and care center adapted at night
Since April 2024, an adapted activity and care center (PASA) has a night reception for people suffering from Alzheimer’s and who have behavioral problems once the sun sets. “The staff is in their pajamas in a cocooning atmosphere to soothe them. For two years, we will evaluate the results of this method. The aim being “to reduce therapeutic treatments and avoid using psychotropic drugs”, summarizes Doctor Françoise Perrier.
This experiment concerns around ten patients from the Les Magnolias nursing home. “We will report to the ARS in 2026 and we hope that this becomes sustainable,” wishes the director.
Doctor Perrier hopes, for her part, to “work with the Pierre-Lôo hospital. We have a nursing home project to accommodate aging psychiatric people.” “After the somewhat gloomy period that we have just experienced, we are on the upswing, which is doing a lot of good for the teams,” says deputy director Sandrine Renaudin.
