With the wedding of Marianne and Leo, the 26th season of Home beautiful two months ago. Too beautiful. Monday evening, in the first episode of the new season, the viewers of the popular soap saw how Leo suffered a stroke on his wedding day. His new wife and entourage rushed to the hospital, where they were told he didn’t make it.

With this, actor Walter Moeremans (81), who gave shape to Leo for thirteen and a half years, puts an end to his career at Home. He made his debut in 2008. In episode 2330, to be exact. At that time he was still the partner of Yvette (Chris Boni), the mother hen of the Frank and Simonneke household.

Leo was the owner of a taxi company near Hof Ter Smissen, for many years the central arena in the soap. When it burned down – as we said, a soap is nothing without some drama – his taxi company moved with it to the location where De Withoeve is now located.

Father figure

Over time, Leo began a secret affair with Jenny (Janine Bischops). Fun fact: Moeremans and Bischops were once a couple in real life too. They were even married and have two daughters together.

Jenny and Leo went to Morocco together. That’s where Jenny died. Once back, Leo developed feelings for Marianne (Leah Thys). Their romance had a lot of feet in the earth, but now it seemed like a happy end to get. Unfortunately, Marianne sees her fourth marriage go up in smoke. Also important: Tamara (Tine Priem), who will soon be getting married to her Bob (Christophe Haddad), loses a father figure. She even named her son after Leo.

Leo was also a popular figure with the viewers. Walter Moeremans was a fixed value on the NTGent stage for many years and has regularly appeared on the small screen since the 1960s, from passages in Johan and the Alverman until Speed on Mega Mindy. The actor himself kept it to a short response on Monday evening. “The last scene, the last salute to the audience. The curtain has fallen. Goodbye, Leo. And thank you to you, the viewer.”

Lifeless in the suitcase

The makers of Home ended their first episode with a dose of suspense. Just before the summer, Rosa (Annick Segal) was kidnapped by the now deceased psychopath Jacques (Peter Van de Velde). Her bosom friend Waldek (Bart Van Avermaet) found her again, but is he on time? After all, Rosa lay lifeless in the trunk of a car.
