Who survives and who does not survive the pile-up of the cliffhanger? It’s all about tension in the first week of the new season GTST. From Monday, August 28, viewers on RTL 4 can see how the Meerdijkers are faring after the shocking accident. Videoland viewers can already see the first four episodes on the streaming service. But for both the viewers who still have to wait and the fans who already have a head start, the new cast photo raises big question marks.
First: Hassan Slaby returns as Marwan. On May 2, you can see how he and Stanley (Kenneth Herdigein) leave Meerdijk. But since his son Tom, who he has with Demi (Noa Zwan), stays behind, a return seemed not unthinkable. In the RTL series Summer Van closes Hassan, who can be seen in the new season of Expedition Robinson, recently made a comeback (see video below). And indeed, Marwan features in the new snapshot of the cast of season 51. Behind Shanti (Bertrie Wierenga), with whom something strange seems to be going on…
Post on Instagram GTST the exact cast photo that RTL Boulevard shares this morning, but with a remarkable effect. After a few seconds, Shanti, among others, who is also remarkably far away from Rik (Ferri Somogyi), disappears from the photo. Just like Jonathan (Thijs Boermans, who gives a look behind the scenes at the photo shoot in the TikTok video below), Nola (Noa Jacobus) and Nina (Marly van der Velden).
Viewers are in an uproar. Is this a big, fat spoiler announcing the departure of Bertrie, Thijs, Noa and Marly? “If this means that Shanti and Nina disappear from the series, I don’t like that,” it sounds. Another pens: ‘Why are people disappearing? Oops, this is not fun…’ It is also speculated that this may point to the potential fatalities of the pile-up.
And then there are also two new faces to see. Or well, viewers get to know them for the summer cliffhanger: actress Jasmine Sendar will make her entrance in De Koning in May. And Mats (Rowan Veltman), the mysterious boy who asks Shanti to dye his hair blue and then runs away without paying, now also appears to be a regular character in the Netherlands’ longest-running soap opera.
A major absentee from the cast photo is actress Camilla Meurer, who makes her comeback for the summer cliffhanger as Monica de Klein. Is she not going to play a role in Manu’s life after all?
