“The fact that investors come from China of all people increases skepticism and stirs emotions”, writes Iten in the latest club organ “GC inside”. A slap in the face for owner Wang.

There’s a fire on the roof of the GC campus in Niederhasli ZH. Once again. But this time the attack comes from within. From the highest grasshopper personally. His name is Andres Iten. And is President of the GC Central Board. Put simply, the top hopper is the boss of all twelve sections (football, ice hockey, rowing squash, rugby, etc.).
–
Iten, who belongs to the rowing section, attacks the new Chinese owner Jenny Wang in the latest club organ “GC inside”. Bernard Schuiteman, the successor to sports director Fredy Bickel, and Adrian Fetscherin, the new head of marketing and communication, also get their fat off the top hopper.
–
Under the title “Commentary on the change of ownership of Grasshopper AG”, Iten writes, among other things: “Even though the GC as a whole with its twelve sections is only marginally affected by this sale, it undoubtedly means a turning point: the most traditional, most well-known and most successful Swiss football Club is taken over and controlled by foreign investors. The fact that investors come from China of all people increases skepticism and stirs emotions. The central board would also have preferred an investor from Switzerland, or even better from Zurich. (…) »Oops, a juicy slap in the face for petite Ms. Wang! Over the next five years, she plans to raise an estimated CHF 40 to 60 million in order to turn the 27-time champion, who is currently only second-rate, into a top club again.
–
Central Board gave his okay
Not to forget: In the end it was the central board headed by Iten who unanimously gave his okay to sell GC to the Chinese!
–
The top hopper is also targeting the new tour. Iten writes: “The new managers had a partial failure to start at the media level: with their GC, which were not always worthy of appearances, they left an unprofessional impression. (…) In the months since the relegation, Andras Gurovits and Fredy Bickel, with their deliberate, unpretentious and committed appearances, have succeeded in revaluing the GC’s image, which had been badly affected in the past. We can only hope that the new managers will orientate themselves on this culture and build on it. »
–
What is meant is the public attack by the new Dutch sports director Bernard Schuiteman on his predecessor Fredy Bickel and his personnel decisions. At a press conference in mid-June, Schuiteman said: “It was amateurish!” Bickel looked back the day after. A media mud battle that Colonel Iten apparently displeased.
–
He closes with the words: “We wish the new leadership a happy hand”.
