New Rules for Starting Positions at Mountain Bike World Championships – Impact on Favorites and Contenders

Suddenly a medal and even a world title becomes a lot more realistic.

The organization of the mountain bike world championships has changed the rules for starting positions. No longer only the UCI ranking in the mountain bike is followed, but the riders do follow a page from the World Cup rule book on Saturday.

In concrete terms: the first rows of the grid will be filled with riders from the top 10 of mountain biking. In addition, all riders from the top 20 on the road who want to participate in the cross country.

If you read between the lines, you will already see a hint of orange appearing. Mathieu van der Poel will therefore not be seated in row 13, but 9 rows in front of it at the start. There he also finds cyclocross buddy Tom Pidcock.

From the start, the top favorite and world champion on the road can fight an intense battle. Already a duel to look forward to.
